Depression

Depression

I chose this image because depression is sometimes nearly impossible to express other than a sense of dark space.

Depression is a common problem, usually begins in young adults, and ideally recognised early when mild and treated with Psychological therapy.

Because we all differ, recognising depression is difficult as it is different for individuals. Despite medical and psychological advances depression is poorly understood and may be resistant to treatment.

Sadly it often becomes more severe and can be life-threatening with suicide a leading cause of death in young adults and depression the leading cause of disability worldwide. Depression should be treated urgently once it it is recognised or suspected. Medication alone is not enough to prevent relapses and Psychotherapy and Mindfulness techniques are recommended to reduce the risk of relapse.
