Psychosis

Psychosis

Psychosis is a syndrome where the sufferer is seriously out of touch with reality with strange ideas or hearing of voices or disorganised or severely restricted behaviour and usually begins in late teens or early 20s and may be due to a variety of causes.

Admission to hospital is often necessary for safety and investigation, ideally while symptoms are mild and the sufferer is able to co-operate. Ongoing education about how to cope with psychosis for the sufferer and their supportive family and friends helps the outcome and is best dealt with by a specialist team.
